Outdoor ads – many ways of getting attention

Being in the creative industry, we always find the innovative use of outdoor advertising spaces intriguing.
Outdoor advertisements can grab attention simply by being impactful - such as the recent out-sized Calvin Klein billboard that covered the former Ritz Carlton hotel in Central Hong Kong - or by using witty brand-aligned messages.
We have to say, we prefer the latter. Both help with brand recall but the latter also helps to build brand affinity.
Witty messages can work on static billboards or billboards featuring interactive multimedia, stunts, 3D creatives or mechanical movements but the messages however, have to be appropriate for the brand.
We have come across some great examples over the years and feature just some here, to demonstrate our point. We’ll let the visuals themselves do most of the talking…

A 3-D billboard from Coca Cola in Taiwan. Thirsty anyone? |

A Louis Vuitton store ‘display’. Great brand building with a simple iconic display. |

A public service announcement from Labatt Breweries of Canada against drunk driving. Tongue-in-cheek, inventive and effective. |

And finally, a ground-breaking outdoor advertisement for Adidas, with two men defying gravity and playing football on a vertical court. A few years old but still one of our favourites! |
The advertiser and their agency must have jumped many hurdles in order to make this happen; just think of all insurance, city approvals, engineering and safety checks!
It goes to show that one can overcome the odds if you persevere on with a great idea.
